Ambris pleased with current form

Emerging stroke-playing middle-order batsman Sunil Ambris is hoping that the third and final Test between West Indies A and Sri Lanka A will be his best yet even though he currently leads the runs table for the regional men.

The shot-making right-hander has so far notched scores of 106, 41 and 29 from the first two matches, which were played at the Trelawny Multi-purpose Complex. The third game was set to start at 2 p.m. yesterday but rain prevented any balls from being bowled, however, both teams will be hoping for the clouds to stay away to get into action today.

"The series has been good for me in terms of runs, but I think the best is yet to come," a confident Ambris told The Gleaner on Tuesday.

"I have been batting well and believe it is just a matter of me being unfortunate in the last match, why I don't have more runs.

"However, this last match provides a good opportunity for me to continue to bat well, and I hope to do so, as the goal for me is to end up with the most runs in the overall series."

The 24-year-old, who hails from St Vincent and The Grenadines, is in arguably the form of his life, having finished high on the runs scoring chart in regional four-day tournament last season.

Highest leve

It resulted in the stroke-maker improving his statistics to four 100s and eight 50s in 37 first-class matches.

This was in addition to a solid regional Super50 tournament earlier this year whereby he improved moving his one-day average to 54.42 in 21 matches with eight half-centuries.

A subsequent call-up then ensued to the West Indies team whereby and after being in the squad for their one-day series against India he made his debut against England in England in the fifth and final one-dayer. He scored an unbeaten 38 in the encounter.

Having gotten a taste at the highest level, Ambris then returned home to join the A team for the Sri Lanka series where in his first innings of the he scored a century.

"It's not different from first-class level, just a slight change, and, is more the mind, than anything else," he said of innings in the series so far.

"I just try and keep it simple and play to my strengths. I also try and play each ball on its merit, and try and keep focus for as long as possible.

"I had a little taste at the top level and know what it is called for, and the extra yards that I have to put in, and that is what I am doing."
