Gayon Evans to continue fine indoor form
Having won the World Indoor Tour in the 60m last year, Gayon Evans is looking to continue her phenomenal indoor form when she competes in the 60m at the Meeting De L'eure in Paris, France, today.
The former Edwin Allen High School standout said that she is hoping to put down a 'banger' to send a clear message to her challengers that she will be among the medals at the World Indoor Championship in Birmingham, England, in March.
"Last year, I had great indoor season. I won the World Indoor Tour, so I want to start off things with a bang and finish with a bang as well," Evans said.
The diminutive sprinter said that she has gotten stronger over the offseason and hopes this means that she has become more explosive.
"I have been working hard in the gym and have got stronger and everything is going well in training," Evans said. "The fact that I am way stronger than last year, I am expecting faster times this year."
Evans has a personal best time of 7.11 seconds in the event. She said that she is looking to run under seven seconds this season or close to that. "I am definitely looking to go 7.0 this season or even 6.9, whatever it takes to get a medal," Evans said.
Evans will also be defending her World Indoor Tour 60m title when the tour kicks off in Germany on February 3. It runs until February 25.
