James excited about World Indoors

Having been selected to represent Jamaica at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, England, starting next Thursday, quarter-miler Tiffany James says that she will be using the platform to test herself among the world's best.

James, who has been touted to have a breakout season as a senior athlete this year, is one of six quarter-milers named by the Jamaica Athletics Administration Association (JAAA) to represent the country in Birmingham.

"I am really elated to be selected, and I am going there to do my best and to see how I look (against the rest of the world)," James said.

It is not clear whether the past student of Papine High School will compete in the flat 400m or just the relays.

"I am not sure yet if I am running the 400m, but I will be going there to do my best," James said.

The other quarter-milers who were named are Janieve Russell, Stephenie-Ann McPherson, Anastasia Le-Roy, Dominique Blake, who returned to track and field last year after serving a four-year ban, and Tovea Jenkins, who will be representing the country for the first time.

STAR NAMES

In total, 30 persons have been selected to represent the country at the championships, the largest Jamaican contingent ever to a World Indoor Championships, as confirmed by president of the JAAA Warren Blake confirmed.

Double Olympic sprint champion Elaine Thompson and world and Olympic sprint hurdles champion Omar McLeod are two of the star names in the team.

The group will be looking to outperform the team that went to the last World Indoor Championships in Portland, Oregon, where the Jamaicans managed to win three medals.
