Hard work brought us success - Comerie

Two-time national Under-17 representative Matthew Comerie believes hard work was the main reason behind Wolmer's Boys' successful pursuit of the ISSA All-Island Under-16 play-off title.

The Wolmerians, on the back of 126 from fellow Jamaica Under-17 batsman Daniel Beckford, defeated Manchester High on first innings in the two innings, two day encounter.

"We have been working and training very hard as a unit all season," expressed Comerie, whose charges entered the contest as urban area champions.

"We lost the toss, but got what we wanted, which was to bowl first, and from there we took charge of the game."

Manchester were dismissed in their first innings for 134 courtesy of a four wicket haul from Jamaica Under-15 leg-spinner Jordon Johnson, national Under-17 left-arm spinner, Rajiv Redhi.

This was against Matthew Morgan, 52, and Oneil Roberts, 19.

Wolmer's, coached by Gibbs Williams, were then struggling at 57 for five before a lower order rally, led by Beckford, and his brother, Justin Beckford, who scored 20, saw them home.

National Under-15 captain, Sanjay Walker, bowling leg-spin, claimed five for 80.

"We were in a sticky position 57-5, but as of late our lower has been doing all season, they came to the party and took us over the line," said Comerie.

Manchester, batting a second time, closed on 67 for three with Dwayne Morgan ending unbeaten on 33 and Morgan getting 11. Redhi took two for 21.
