Graham credits G.C. Foster for hurdles success

Veteran hurdles coach Lennox Graham believes G.C. Foster College of Physical Education and Sport should be credited for the booming success Jamaica is now enjoying in the obstacle events over the last six years.

Graham, who is in charge of the sprint and hurdles gang at Clemson University, said that G.C. Foster is 'a conveyor belt' that is pushing out coaches, who are technically sound yearly.

"Jamaica has brilliant coaches at all levels, it is very evident. We have a (G.C. Foster) conveyor belt just pushing out coaches every year. Coaches are graduating from G.C. Foster College every year and these guys are technically sound and then they gain experience over the years," Graham said. "I think G.C. Foster should be credited for the success that we now enjoy."

Since 2012, Jamaica has won 14 medals at the Olympics Games, World Indoors, World Championships and Commonwealth Games in hurdles events.

"I did an interview in 2013 in Moscow and I was asked about the sprint hurdles women because Brigitte (Foster Hylton) and Delloreen (Ennis London) had left the scene and there was a little bit of panic as to where the next one was coming from. I said all Jamaica had to do was be patient because we had a lot of people who were young and on the horizon. So what happened is a lot of those persons have matured. I couldn't have foreseen the sprint hurdles men though, but I saw the sprint hurdles women coming because there were so many people at the world youth level and the world junior level who were breaking into new territory," Graham explained.

Graham guided Danielle Williams to the women's 100m hurdles title at the 2015 edition of the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Beijing, China.
