Schoolboy Football: STATHS developing new style of play

St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) kicked of their 2018 ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup season with a comfortable 3-0 win over Papine High at their school earlier this week, but the 2017 finalist will be looking to gain composure when they continue their campaign against Tarrant High at Tarrant's playing field tomorrow.

"We wanted the three points in the first match and we got them but I think we need more time to continue to develop our new style of play," said Coach Phillip Williams. "It was obvious from the first game that there are some areas that we need work on."

According to Williams, the new style of play, which entails maintaining possession of the football, was introduced in the latter of part last season when they were beaten on penalties by Jamaica College in the final.

"What we are focusing on is developing an identity that will make us competitive and the match against Tarrant we want to practise it some more," Williams explained.

Williams expects Anthony Nelson to orchestrate the new style from midfield with Ackeem Brown and Warner Brown to provide the finish.

"Tarrant is a new team and we don't know much about them, but every team in the competition is good and we can't take anyone lightly, so we are expecting them to come and challenge us," Williams said.

The other games in Group A tomorrow will see Papine hosting Cedar Grove and St George's College will take on Cumberland.
