"Come on Charlie!" - Super fan Bennett backs Charlie Smith Manning Cup success
At the age of 52, Desrine Bennett prides herself in being one of the biggest cheerleaders for Charlie Smith High school's ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup team.
Bennett attends every game and her regular, high-pitched cheer - "Come on, Charlie" - has become a staple wherever the team plays.
She shared that she has been rooting for Charlie Smith from as far back as the early 2000s, since she was the president of the school's Parent-Teacher Association.
"My kids attended the school and it is from then I developed the love for the school," Bennett told STAR Sports on the weekend.
"I watched them right through, even when they went to final at Stadium and lost. It is like I am planted at Charlie."
Charlie Smith is giving Bennett a lot to cheer about these days, as they have secured a spot in the second round of the 2018 ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup football competition.
On Saturday, they held Group C leaders Camperdown to a 1-1 draw at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, and the super fan is showing her appreciation for their performances this season.
"I really like how we have been playing this year and I think we have a fair chance of winning the competition. All we have to do is keep on doing what we have been doing, because the boys have been playing good football," Bennett explained.
She refused to disclose the cheer she will execute if Charlie Smith should win the Manning Cup competition this year, but told STAR Sports that it would be something Jamaica will remember for a very long time.
