Dunbeholden dedicate first win to dead manager
Michael Cohen, head coach of Dunbeholden FC, dedicated his side's first win in the Red Stripe Premier League to their security manager Michael Robinson (37), who passed away last Friday.
The St Catherine-based club had lost their first three games upon being promoted to the nation's top-flight league but pulled off a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Mount Pleasant Football Academy, who are also new to the competition on Sunday.
"We felt like we had to win because Mr Robinson was always saying that there is one team that can't beat us and that is Mount Pleasant," Cohen said.
STAR Sports understands that Robinson was ailing for some time.
According to Cohen, the result of the game was not just based on heightened emotions, but the hard work they put in towards correcting their finishing woes.
"We realised that we were creating a lot of chances, but we were not finishing, and so we put a lot of work into that aspect, and it paid off," Cohen explained.
Deandre Thomas is credited with scoring Dunbeholden's first goal in the RSPL when he fired home in the 17th minute at the Drax Hall Sports Complex.
"Our team can play with the best in this league, we just weren't finishing, and once we are putting the ball in the back of the net, we are going to win games," Cohen said.
Dunbeholden lost their first three games to 1-0 score lines, two of which were by way of penalties.
