Dunbeholden ready to defy odds

Dunbeholden FC have been fighting hard to defy a trend that has left a lot of clubs in Jamaica in shambles.

The trend, which is that one of the two promoted teams to the Red Stripe Premier League each year will be relegated in their first season, has been consistent for the last five seasons and has failed to happen only once in the last decade.

With this in mind, the St Catherine based side dug deep to lift themselves out of the relegation zone.

And now that they are in ninth position, head coach Michael Cohen said he is focused on becoming a mid-table team before the first round of the season comes to an end.

"The objective is to cement our place in the middle of the table so that we can make a run for the playoffs in the final two rounds," Cohen told STAR Sports.

Dunbeholden, who are on seven points, have recorded two wins and a draw out of the seven matches they played and Cohen believes his side has figured out what they need to do to increase their winning column figures.

"We have been practising our finishing in training a lot because we have been creating a lot chances and not finishing," Cohen said. "We are also working on our fitness so we can concentrate longer, because most of the goals we concede happen late in the game."

Nickoy Christian has been Dunbeholden's most outstanding player so far as he has created five assists and scored a goal, but Cohen is confident his other players will also step up to the plate.

Dunbeholden will play away to Reno FC, also on seven points, on Sunday.
