Duckie demands more goals
Mount Pleasant Football Academy have so far lived up to the hype of their lavish off-season spending by taking up residence in the top five of the Red Stripe Premier League points table.
However, Donovan Duckie's team has the lowest goal difference among top 5 teams with a meagre two-goal cushion.
Much more was expected of the team, which boasts the likes of Kemar Beckford, Cardel Benbow, former league-leading goalscorer Devon Hodges, and substitute Kessian Hall, who scored over 40 goals for the club last year to take them to the top flight. With a mere eight goals to their credit, questions are being asked about the St Ann team's attacking efficiency.
It is a problem the national Under-23 coach is hoping to rectify soon.
"We know that we have to score more goals, but we have to be more patient and don't rush things," Duckie explained. "There are moments when we rush the play and we could have relaxed, and it would have worked out better for us."
He continued: "But it is a long season, and we have time to get it right."
Duckie said as the season goes on, he is looking to play his bench players more, and he hopes a player like Hall will get a chance to show his quality in front of goal to the Red Stripe Premier League audience.
"Hall is a quality player. He is in transition to the Premier League. He is one of our more prolific strikers, and he will get a chance to show his worth to the Premier League," Duckie said. "He scored over 40 goals to take us to where we are, and we know he is a good striker."
