TG's inconsistency frustrating fans

Tivoli Gardens’ topsy-turvy season is frustrating football fans in the western Kingston community.

The ‘Gardenists’ won their first three matches of the 2018-19 Red Stripe Premier League season and were sitting comfortable at the top of the table before losing to arch-rivals Arnett Gardens on Match Day Four followed by another defeat to the newly-promoted Mount Pleasant Academy in their next game.

They returned to the number one spot in the league after beating defending champions Portmore United on Match Day Eight but have since slipped back into mediocrity with a 3-1 defeat to Humble Lion, a 1-1 draw with Waterhouse and a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Cavalier in their most recent game on Sunday.

Those results have left the team in a mid-table position as the now sit in fifth place on 17 points.

Fans witnessed the young and vibrant Cavalier team run rings around their team at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex under the lights and it has left a sour taste in their mouths as many of them have started calling for the sacking of  Coach, Omar ‘Tiger’ Edwards.

“A nuh Tiger that, a sheep,” one fan was heard shouting after the match. “Him nuh know what him a do.”

But Edwards has attributed their inconsistent season to a number of their players not being able to stay healthy.

“One of the reasons why we are up and down is the situation of injuries. We have players in and we have players out. I am hoping for the second round we will get back all our players so that we can play well again,” Edwards said.

Veteran striker, Jermaine ‘Teddy’ Johnson came off the injury list to make his season’s debut against Cavalier but he admitted that he is not back to full fitness.

“Right now I am just fifty per cent fit but I see where my team needed me and that’s why I played today (Sunday),” Johnson said. “I am hoping over the next few weeks I can come back to full match fitness so we can start playing better again.”
