'On the road to 48 seconds' - Rhodes Hall star off to US Junior College

Rovane Williams, the Rhodes Hall High School athlete who starred in the 400m hurdles for Class One boys at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Championships (Champs) last year, is set to continue his education at Western Texas College in the USA.

Williams is scheduled to fly to the Snyder, Texas-based community college later this month to study Sports Management and work towards his dream of making it to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

The 49.94 second athlete was unable, at this point to take up a scholarship at a Division One University in the United States, for academic reasons, but he believes this will not hinder his development as the athletics atmosphere is right at Western Texas, and will enable him to continue to run fast.

"There is an athlete from Kenya there, who is also running 49 (seconds in the 400m hurdles) and I know I work well with competition, so it should push me a lot," Williams said.

"I think running in Junior College will also provide me with good competition also, as I will be competing against Phillip Lemonious."

Lemonious, who finished fourth to Williams' first in the final of the 400m hurdles at Champs last year, is now a student at Central Arizona Community College.

"I think competing against them will enable me to go up against a very tough field, which should help me to achieve my objective of taking my time down to 48 seconds this year," he explained.
