No stopping Corazon

CORAZON's run in the Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes, straightening eight lengths behind the battling colts, RUN THATCHER RUN and EARN YOUR STRIPES, eventually beaten by six and three-quarter lengths, proved beyond doubt that she was the best two-year-old filly last season and winter book favourite for April's 1000 Guineas.

The game filly returns as a three-year-old on tomorrow's midweek card, facing imported and older horses at six furlongs, working like a bullet at exercise and ready to make it four wins from five starts.

Robert Halledeen will partner CORAZON so the filly goes overweight at 116lb but has little fear from her five rivals.

Unbeaten in three runs heading into the December 26 Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes, CORAZON ran five pounds lighter than the six colts and geldings she faced, finishing fourth, four and a quarter lengths behind stablemate EARN YOUR STRIPES, who went off as the 4-5 favourite.

At 116lb, CORAZON is sitting level with almost all her rivals on Wednesday, bar stablemate SHE'S SYMBOLIC, whose form lines stacked with mile events, indicates that she belongs nowhere near this event, going up against sprinters.

That leaves CORAZON against four foreigners, two pairs of stablemates - Ian Parsard's SUPER SPARKLE and HARRY'S TRAIN, joined by Gary Subratie's BOLD AFLAIR and BOLD SMILE, who is yet to show anything of worth in three starts.

Whereas HARRY'S TRAIN came out worst in a three-way photo at a mile, involving BRANDY and MY SUPER GIRL, in the Seymour 'Foggy' Mullings Memorial on December 22, SUPER SPARKLE hasn't shown a glimmer of form since losing out on her hat-trick bid on September 8 behind MY ELLE BELLE and LISA'S PEPSI at a mile.

Normally a front-running sort, SUPER SPARKLE hardly raised a gallop in two subsequent races, was away from for all of December and makes her seasonal debut barely doing anything at exercise, making her a difficult choice, even though she had shown really good speed and talent before going off the radar.

BOLD AFLAIR got off the mark on his second outing, November 21, but his 1:21.2 for six and a half furlongs pales in comparison to CORAZON's 1:19.2, posted 11 days earlier, putting her in an entirely different class.

HARRY'S TRAIN, who went down fighting against BRANDY and MY SUPER GIRL, isn't your typical sprinter but neither is she a distance runner, despite winning at nine furlongs and 25 yards. Omar Walker need only stay close and save her for the last two furlongs to complete the exacta with CORAZON.
