Montego Bay United captain Dwayne Ambusely said their win over Reno on Sunday has lifted the mood at the club and has given them the belief they need to prevent being relegated from the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) this season.

Montego Bay, 11th in the table, stopped western rivals and fellow relegation strugglers Reno 2-1 to move four points clear of the bottom of the standings.

The victory also put them one point adrift of 10th-place Habour View with four matches to go, and Ambusley said the belief is back that they can be in the league next season.

"At the start of the season things weren't upbeat because things weren't going our way and we weren't getting the results. But since that game against Harbour View when we came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3, everything has been upbeat. Players are coming out to training and enjoying themselves again, and they are putting in the work. Even after training you have players staying back and putting in extra work,"he said.

SIGNIFICANT GAME

However, he thought the game against Harbour View was significant to their entire revival. "It all started with that game against Harbour View when we were down 3-1 with 15 minutes to go and we fought back to draw 3-3 and get a point. If we had lost that game we would have been four points behind Harbour View now, but we are only one point behind them. That game we were coming off three straight defeats, and after we came back from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 we told ourselves that we can win any game from the start.

"After that, we had another tough game against Humble Lion where we came from behind and drew, then the game before this we had to come from a goal down to win, so the team has been really showing a lot of fight and resilience and they really believe now," he added.

The presence of Brazilian coach Luciano Gama has major impact, and Ambusely said they are only looking to build on the good work he has done so far.

"He (Gama) has been a breath of fresh air, he has done things differently. He came in with seven games to go and he has done things in a different way, but the players have reacted to him and right now they are believing. The Lord knows which teams will be relegated at the end of the season but we do not know that, and we will not take it lying down. We will go out every match and work hard and fight to get the results we want," he said.
