A year ago, it was double success for Excelsior High’s Shantae Foreman at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boy’s and Girls’ Athletics Championships, after winning the Class Three girls’ long jump with 5.82 metres and the high jump with a record 1.80m.

The tall and lanky Foreman has moved up to Class Two and she is eyeing another double. She gave a glimpse of what could come at Champs at the Corporate Area Championships with a record-breaking performance on the opening day, after clearing 1.75m to erase the old mark of 1.70m in the high jump.

“I want to repeat what I did a year ago in Class Three by taking another double, and I am really pleased with my preparation leading up to this year’s championships. My aim is to do much better this time around by increasing the distance and height in both events, and once I do that, I can’t see why I should not come out victorious again,” she said.

MAIN COMPETITORS

Asked who she sees as her main competitors, her reply was: “I am not really focusing on any other athletes. It is just about me and my personal goals. If I go out there and win with records, it will mean a lot for me, knowing that it would have been three years in a row doing this; and this is something I would really cherish, as it would make my family, coaches, teammates and community very proud.”

Foreman pointed out that Blanka Vlasic of Croatia is her role model.

“She is my role model because I like her spirit, the way she does her technique, and just her entire vibes,”she said.
