Holmwood’s secret weapon

THE name ‘Danielle Brissett’ does not yet resonate at Holmwood Technical High School.

The 18-year-old is a former St Jago High School athlete and is still getting used to the rigid training programme at the Christiana-based institution. But, come March 26-30, she is hoping to make a big mark at the 2019 ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships as she will be competing in the Class One 400m and the Open 400m hurdles.

Brissett has lowered her times in both event to 55.19 and 59.32, respectively, and maybe one of Holmwood’s hidden weapons as they try to win their 11th title.

“I am really pleased with my progress at Holmwood Technical as I have improved big time. I am coming from nowhere, and I really want to make a big mark at the championships by giving my team valuable points in their bid to win the championships,” said Brissett.

After finishing second in the 400m hurdles and fourth in the 400 metres at Central Championships, she is hoping to improve on her placing, despite the quality line-ups she will encounter in both events.

“I have trained really hard, and despite the strong field, I think I can improve my positions from Central Championships and ensure my team gets the points they needed, and I am looking for personal best in my events,” she continued.

She is confident that Holmwood can be victorious at Champs.

“I know we can do it as the preparation has been great, and once the girls remain focused and we stay healthy, we can go all the way,” she said.
