Marsh still eyeing overseas move

Four years after his last overseas stint with Finnish premiership club Kokkolan Palloveikot, Cavalier's Chevone Marsh believes he has been unlucky not to get another opportunity to play abroad.

But the 25-year-old still has his eyes on landing an overseas deal. He told STAR Sports that playing regular international football could get him closer to achieving his goal,and his performance in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) is just an indication of his renewed resolve.

But while he remains playing domestically, the player who has 10 goals from midfield this season, and who was recently named Cavalier Player of the Decade, says he intends to keep the Cavalier flag flying high, even though teammates Alex Marshall and Nicholas Hamilton, who make up the MHN attacking trio along with Marsh, are due to leave for the Canadian Premier League in the next few months.

"Sometimes you need some luck and throughout my career I have been unlucky. I am working harder and I think that will repay me at the end of the day. I am aiming to get back into the national team and I know what I have to do, get the numbers up and see what turns for me, and see if I am lucky enough to get back a call overseas," he said.

"I have been leading from front from the get-go (this season). I have been scoring doubles and hat-tricks and I am the marksman in the team and I will continue to help the team, and do my best."

Marshall is set to join the HFX Wanderers and Hamilton will go to York 9 in the Canadian Premier League, which starts in April, but Marsh is not bothered by their departure as he intends to use it as a motivation instead.

"Two of our better players, Alex Marshall and Nicholas Hamilton, will be leaving and it is actually the end of the MHN era. All good things must come to an end and I am just wishing them all the best.

"Naturally, as the captain you have to step up and lead, but I am 100 per cent confident (the team can make play-offs). The young players know two of our better players are going and they have to fill that gap. It is not going to be easy as losing Alex and Nicholas is like losing Iniesta and Xavi of Barcelona. But I just want to continue to do my best and make my family and community proud. Everybody's looking for great things and they expect me to rise to the occasion, and I am doing that on any given weekend, so I am pleased 100 per cent," he commented.
