KC duo signs for University of Maryland
The Kingston College (KC) duo of Roshaun Rowe and Kobe Simpson will be attending the University of Maryland this autumn. Rowe, a sprinter, was the captain of the North Street-based team heading into its defence of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships title before the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled the event last month. Simpson, formerly of Manchester High School, is a 400m specialist. They will join former KC athletes Dashawn Morris, the 2018 Champs Class One 400m champion, and half-miler Colin Rowe, who are both in their second year.
Rowe says he is looking forward to his new school but is disappointed that he was not able to get the chance to help lift his team to a second straight hold on the Mortimer Geddes title.
"I believe this year was my year to shine," he said. "I have worked hard and trained so smart this season under close supervision of my coaches Andre Wellington and Leaford Grant. Knowing that I was also injury-free, I was a well-prepared warrior heading into the championships. I knew I had a show to put on and didn't have any doubt whatsoever on securing gold."
Rowe will be majoring in business management and says he is happy that he will team up with his former teammates.
"Dashawn and Colin are both good friends of mine and also former training partners, and we have developed a close-knit relationship over the years at Kingston College," he said. "We are a family, a family that prays together and stays together."
