Holder laments failures in series loss
In a series that started so brightly for the Caribbean boys, West Indies endured a disappointing end though the were expected to succumb to England who with a 269 run retain the Wisden Trophy following a 1-2 loss.
The English bowlers, marshalled by the effervescent Man of the Match and the series, Stuart Broad, and backed up by the probing Chris Woakes, wrapped the match on the fifth day as they snared the eight remaining West Indies wickets for 187 runs to win by a whopping 269 runs
The Windies, who came into the final day on 10 for two, was looking to survive the day and at least hang on for a draw; however, Woakes, with five for 50, and Broad, four for 36, ended those hopes as the regional side faltered.
Shai Hope showed some glimpse of his batting potential with a stroke-filled 31, while Jamaican batsman Jermaine Blackwood and Shamarh Brooks contributed 23 and 22, respectively.
Batting woes
Captain Jason Holder lamented the team's continued batting woes; however, he remains optimistic that the young side can take away a lot of positives from the historic series.
"We're obviously disappointed to lose the series. We had quite a few positives in the series. Just probably a few more conversions from the starts we had got would have done us a lot better. We didn't get the runs we were looking for, we had plenty of starts and got 40s, 30s, but didn't kick on. In contrast, when Stokes got in and some of their players got in, they went big," said Holder.
The West Indies have now lost four games and won just once in the ICC World Test Championship; however, the team has played in just two series so far, compared to teams such as India, Australia, England and New Zealand.
"I still think this team has got what it takes to at least be mid-tier in the World Test Championship and obviously move up the rankings. And we've seen it. We've seen glimpses of it in this entire series, we've seen glimpses of it in the last series against Afghanistan, and the previous series against India and England," added Holder.
The West Indies, who will return to the Caribbean today, are slated to take on South Africa in a home series.
