Catalonia friendly not likely till next year – Wint

Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) general secretary, Dalton Wint, says the international friendly which was scheduled to be played against Catalonia in March this year is still very much on the cards but he does not expect that game to be played until next year.

The fixture was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Wint told STAR Sports that the federation is in touch with the organisers and would have discussions about a future date when the deadly virus is no longer rampant.

International travel

"Yes, it is still on. We have maintained communication and we will have discussions about it. But it depends on how the country (Spain) will open up," he said.

With the uncertainty surrounding international travel and countries' reopening their borders, Wint does not believe the match would take place this year.

"If it is not possible this year, we will have that game next year. We are having the conversations and as far as I can see it will not be until early next year. But the game is still on," he commented.

Catalonia, an area of Spain seeking autonomy, has some top Spanish first division players such as Barcelona's Gerald Pique and former Barcelona standouts Marc Bartra and Aliex Vidal. The team also has outstanding players such as Sergio Garcia, Victor Sanchez (Esponyal), Joan Jordon (Sevilla) and Pere Pons (Alaves).
