Edwin’s Brown to join Davis in Texas
ANOTHER Edwin Allen High athlete will be a Longhorn this season as triple jumper Lotavia Brown will leave the island this week for the University of Texas in Austin. Brown will join up with ace sprinter Kevona Davis, who left the island two weeks ago.
Brown, the 2019 Pan Am Junior Championships gold medallist in the triple jump, and who was a runner-up in the event at last year's Penn Relays, behind former teammate Ackelia Smith, will be pursuing a bachelor's degree in business and marketing management.
"I choose the University of Texas because they have a known history of producing high academic achievers, and also of their high-calibre track and field programme, which I think can take me to the highest level in my event," said Brown.
Loves to compete
Brown, who was also a silver medallist in the long jump in Class One at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Championships last year, and who was down to do the 400m hurdles at Champs this year before it was cancelled, stated that she really loves to compete in the triple jump and is inspired by World Championships silver medallist Shanieka Ricketts.
"Shanieka is my role model and I am happy that I will get the opportunity to one day be like her, as I have a deep passion for the event and I am inspired by her as she continues to motivate me," Brown said.
Brown is also elated to be teaming up once again with Davis. "We have been each other's motivator and it is a great feeling to know that we were at the same high school and are now getting another opportunity to be around each other at the college level. I am overwhelmed," she concluded.
