Former Jamaica batsman among USA zonal selectors

Former Jamaica middle-order batsman and Kensington cricket captain Richard Staple and two other Jamaicans have been named as zonal selectors by USA cricket.

Staple, who played for Jamaica and the USA between 1990 and 2005 has been chosen as a zonal selector for the east zone with New York being the hub.

Former Jamaica youth player Mark 'Soupbone' Johnson has also been chosen as a zonal selector in the south zone which comprises the South Florida area.

Another youth player who will be doing scouting and selection duties for the senior USA men's team is Orlando Baker, who will operate in the Dallas area.

Former West Indies opener Clayton Lambert has been named as senior men's south zonal selector for the Atlanta area while veteran former West Indies batsman Alvin Kallicharan will work at the youth level in Raleigh North Carolina.

The first task for the zonal selection panel will be to select players who will be invited to attend zonal trials in 14 locations across the US during October 2020. USA cricket has already received more than 1,200 nominations from more than 135 leagues and academies nationwide.
