West Indies falter as NZ wrap up series
The West Indies showed a little bit of fight in their second innings, however, it was not enough as they went down by an innings and 12 runs to New Zealand on the fourth day of the second Test in Wellington.
Resuming the day on 244 for six, still trailing the Kiwi's by 85 runs, the West Indies lost captain Jason Holder early on the fourth morning as he could only manage to add just one run to his overnight score of 60.
Debutant wicket-keeper Joshua Da Silva, who was not out on 25 overnight, went on to notch his maiden Test half-century after sharing in a 30-run eight-wicket partnership with Alzarri Joseph who made 24.
Da Silva would eventually become the ninth wicket to fall when he was trapped in front by Neil Wagner for a well-played 57 which included six fours.
Three for 96
Wagner would pick up his third wicket to wrap up the innings when he bowled Shannon Gabriel for a duck to leave Chemar Holder not out on 13, as the visitors were all out for 317.
Trent Boult, who rocked the West Indies top order, finished with three for 96 to hand the New Zealanders a two-nil series victory.
Losing captain Jason Holder lamented his team's poor showing throughout the match.
"Disappointing obviously to lose another Test match. The fight that we showed in the second innings is what we're looking for. There are positives. Chemar, Joshua and Jermaine all batted well. We have shown time and time again that we have the ability. The key is to show consistency. That is something West Indies cricket has lacked in recent times," said Holder.
