Beecher Foundation develops children with netball, football rally

The Beecher Foundation continues to be a contributor to the development of children in the parish of Catherine, with several schools allowed the opportunity to improve their mobility and competitive skills with the return of the football and netball rally.

Absent for the past two years because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the rally was held at Jericho Primary School last Friday, with the organisers pleased that they were able to bring fun and excitement to the children after the hiatus.

"It feels good that after a two-year absence due to the COVID pandemic, the competition is back. We find it most rewarding that the contest brought pride and joy to communities," Pauline Beecher said.

According to head of the foundation, Claude Beecher, the rally was used to foster healthy and meaningful competition among the participants.

"The schools in the competition are a part of the foundation's programme, so the rally is the fun component. It is very important to enable these students to participate in healthy activities. It guides their development," he said.

The participating schools were Bermaddy Primary, Cedar Valley Primary, Homestead Primary, Jericho Primary, Crescent Primary and Simon Primary. They competed for trophies and medals.

Homestead Primary were crowned football champions and Jericho Primary were the winners of the netball competition.

Royale Gordon was excited to coach Homestead to victory.

"This is a great sense of achievement. We travelled so far, and being victorious really feels good to me," Gordon said.

The rally was contested with cheering parents, guardians and students from the six participating schools. All the stakeholders readily expressed anticipation for next year's instalment.
