President of Jamaica's Drivers Rally Sports Club, Marcia Dawes, will use the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club-sanctioned Rally Reboot to rekindle the interest and build local momentum for the sport.

Rally Reboot, after months of uncertainty, will be held on Saturday in Bog Walk, St Catherine and will be by the FIA International Sporting Code. Dawes is unfazed by only having 12 entrants, as she believes rally racing has a place in Jamaica and the ability to grow.

"Most persons who would have been part of it weren't initially aware that we've resumed, which forms part of the reason why we opt not to have a Rally Jamaica, but rather build back the interest and momentum from this event," said Dawes.

"This is why we're doing the one-day event so that persons can realise that the sport is back up and then for 2023 we will have a full calendar, which will include rallies and sprints.

"For it (Motorsport) to get back to where it was, It has to start with us (organisers), competitors and persons in the sport to be consistent and show up for events in our numbers and then the general public will then come back to us, in that sense," she added.

Dawes cited plans to approach the government to get assistance for the motor-racing community, as part of her plans for the next racing season.

"That's part of it, but again, before we get the government's assistance, we have to have the numbers, we have to start there. Part of the plans for next year is to approach the government to help with the sport, especially because we want to have back a Rally Jamaica and other bigger events," Dawes concluded.
