Mount Pleasant’s Gould proud

Owner Peter Gould could not contain his excitement and beamed with pride after witnessing Mount Pleasant make their first-ever Jamaica Premier League (JPL) final on Sunday when they secured a 3-1 victory over Arnett Gardens in the second-leg semi-final at Sabina Park.
The England-born businessman travelled to Jamaica, fell in love with the Mount Pleasant community, and founded the Mount Pleasant Football Academy in 2016 before investing billions of dollars to develop a football school and club there.
Gould was full of praise for striker Trivante Stewart, who bagged a brace on the night to give them the win, and he likened the forward to former Chelsea and Ivory Coast ace Didier Drogba.
"I just want to get there (final), but they sure put on a fantastic display," he beamed seconds before the final whistle on Sunday.
"The first (leg) game was fantastic, but this was character. The players, they worked hard, and now we have done it. I am a proud man," he told STAR Sports before running off to congratulate coach Theodore Whitmore and his assistant Warren Barrett.
Gould, who is also a known Chelsea and Didier Drogba supporter, was also overly impressed with Stewart's two goals, especially the second when he posted up on his marker and controlled a high cross before hitting a half-volley on the half-turn past Eric Edwards in the goal.
"We have our own Didier Drogba," he declared. "That second goal was certainly Didier Drogba. It was special."
The St Ann-based Mount Pleasant will square off against 2021 champions Cavalier in Sunday's decider, and as much as Gould wants them to go on and lift their first national title, he wants the players to enjoy the movement and themselves.
"Next weekend will be a lot of fun. I hope the players go out, have some fun and do their best. The coach and his team have done fantastic. I hope things go our way, and we can top it all," Gould said.
