Jackson ranked No. 2 in the world

World Championships 200 metres gold medallist Shericka Jackson has ended the 2023 season ranked number two female athlete in the world by track and field's governing body World Athletics.

Jackson, who clocked 21.41 seconds to win gold in the half-lap event in Budapest for the second fastest time ever by a female in the event, was also second in the 100m in 10.72 and ended with 1558 ranking points.

The double sprint champion at the Diamond League final in Eugene was just edged out by Faith Kipyegon of Kenya who ended with 1584 points. It has also been an exceptional season for Kipyegon who won the 1500m, 5000m double in Budapest. She also set world records in the 1500m and the mile during the season.

After dominating her rivals all season in the 400m hurdles, including comprehensive wins at the World Championships in 51.70 seconds and Diamond League final, Femke Bol of the Netherlands ended in third spot with 1524 points.

Closing out the top five were World 100m champion Sha'Carri Richardson of the United States and 10,000m champion Gudaf Tsegay of Ethiopia.

Richardson who sped to victory in the women's 100m in a personal best 10.65 and who also finished third in the 200m in a personal best 21.92 ended with 1506 points for fourth. Tsegay ended fifth with 1499 points after good performances all season. She is the world record holder for the 5000m after winning at the Eugene Diamond League in 14: 00.21 and was a gold medallist in the 10,000 metres at the Budapest World Championships.
