Portmore United reigned supreme over Molynes United with a 2-0 victory at Ferdie Neita Park on Sunday.

Chevaughn Walsh opened the goalscoring sheet at the brink of half-time, but it was Okelo Howard who solidified the win with a 69th-minute finish off Martin Davis' assist.

According to Howard, his son fuelled the desire to get on the scorecard.

"I just have to tell God, thank you. I had the mindset to come here and do this for my son. He is the one that is pushing me to get a contract to make a better life out of football," he said.

The 21-year-old said he was motivated even further when his sister bellowed from the stands that he should score a goal for his son.

"Since she told me that, I looked in myself and pictured my son. I had to reach there to tap it in," he said.

Even though it is early in the season, the young midfielder said it has not been easy for him.

"I am just coming off an injury from Mount Pleasant's match, and I was out for the second match. I came back and worked hard to go back into the starting squad. Last week, I got an assist coming off the bench, and I started this game and got a goal, so I have to tell God, thank you," Howard said.

Howard is further motivated by Portmore despite the challenges.

"It's a good vibe; the coach, the management staff, everyone playing their part," he said.

This has his mind set on some objectives for this season.

"The object (for Portmore) is the top six. My object is a contract for my son and I, for a better life," Howard said.

In the meanwhile, he is basking in this proud moment.

"I feel very proud. My friends, I thank God for them. My baby's mother is there pushing me," he said.

Portmore United play Harbour View tomorrow.
