MoBay get first away win

Montego Bay United (MBU) had their first away win in the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League (JPL) season yesterday when they defeated Treasure Beach 2-1 at St Elizabeth High School (STETHS) Sports Complex.

The win pushes MBU to 11 points, with Treasure Beach remaining on six.

Former champions MBU took the lead in the 26th minute through Brian Brown. Treasure Beach's Lorenzo Lewin equalised in the 41st minute, with Brown sealing the win after the break with a second goal in the 71st minute.

The Neider Dos Santos-coached MBU made their presence felt early in the first half by playing a better brand of football while attacking their opponents with organised ball movement.

MBU took the lead from their third corner, with Brown flicking the ball into the net but Treasure Beach were far from beaten, and Lewin pulled them level with a solo effort from a well-executed delivery that forced an error from MBU defenders, who were left angry with each other.

Treasure Beach started the second half with a little more firepower, bringing to life their drums and spectators, but disaster struck when Brown headed the ball into the goal from a build-up, which proved to be the decider.

Dos Santos was happy for the away win.

"We had two draws and three losses away. We played very well at home, but it was not enough. We needed those points today to start playing more competitively away. That victory against Portmore United (last week) lifted the morale high for us in this game.

"The players were confident, and we fought through the end, especially playing a good first half. I think we deserved the win, and I am very proud of the team," Dos Santos proudly said.

In the meantime, Fitzroy Ambursley, assistant coach of Treasure Beach, said MBU outplayed them.

"The first five minutes, MBU, a good team, came at us. In the latter stages of the game, we started to show ourselves that we have the ability of professional football. Overall, the performance was fair because we got numerous chances and did not capitalise on them," Ambursley said.
