MBU keep in the hunt with 2-1 win

Montego Bay United (MBU) remained outside the top six in the Wray and Nephew-sponsored Jamaica Premier League, despite being on a three-game win streak, with the latest being a 2-1 victory over Molynes United yesterday at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.

MBU's win in the highly intense match places them seventh in points standing with 37 points, similar to Waterhouse, who secured a well-needed 1-0 win against Dunbeholden to sit at sixth by goal difference.

Coach of MBU, Neider dos Santos, wants to continue winning, hoping to advance from the preliminary round, by being in the top six.

"All we need to do is just win and that is what we are doing. Today was a difficult match because it is hard to play against a team that doesn't have anything to lose. We have a lot to lose. Win, draw or lose this match, it doesn't change their situation in the league," dos Santos said.

"I have to compliment the players because we have been competitive. That's why we have three wins in a row. We have Harbour View next week in an away game. We will fight to do our best and that's what we will do," he added.

In the meantime, Jermaine Thomas, coach of Molynes United, who was ejected from the game, said the officiating was poor.

"Referees are not supposed to be bullies. If you are going to call people idiots and dunce, people are going to react. I was ejected because I asked a question."

"However, I will credit the guys, because they fought hard. We gave as much as we got, but I think the game was taken away from us," he added.

The Sunday evening football was an exciting treat for the large crowd of spectators.

Molynes' Jason Wright set the tone with an early goal in the 12th minute. However, in the 26th minute, MBU's Johann Weatherly levelled the score. In the 68th minute, coach Thomas was shown a red card, before MBU's Jean Claudio Rios Ferreira cemented the win with a penalty in the 69th minute.

Wright scored a penalty for Molynes to take the lead, as MBU's Weatherly, with an assist by Owayne Gordon, struck the ball in the net to level the score.

Awarded a penalty, Ferreira comfortably scored the goal, securing the win for MBU.
