GC Foster men, UTech women to lead college charge at Penns
GC FOSTER College men and the University of Technology (UTech) women will be leading the local college charge at this weekend's 128th staging of the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
The Maurice Wilson-coached GC Foster will be looking to prove that their 4x200 metres Championship of America collegiate win last year was no fluke. Last year, the Spanish Town-based institution turned back several top United States colleges including Houston, Texas A&M and Clemson University to win the title.
Led by Michael Sharpe, Earl Simmonds, Tevin Hyman and Zandrion Barnes they will be hoping to successfully defend their title when they compete in the event this Friday at 2:10 p.m. Jamaica time. UTech, led by Odaine Samuels and The Mico University College, led by Rasheed Foster, will also be hoping to make their presence felt in this event.
GC Foster will also spearhead the teams in both the 4x100m and 4x400m. The preliminary rounds of the college 4x100m will be contested on Friday at 12:55 p.m. Jamaica time. Both GC Foster College and UTech will be hoping to bring back memories of former years when UTech won the event between 2013 and 2015 and GC Foster were victorious in 2016 and 2017. On Friday at 5:50 p.m., GC Foster will also line up in the sprint medley relay final.
GC Foster will also contest the Championship of America college 4x400m final on Saturday's final day at 3:55 p.m.
The Paul Francis-coached UTech women will be hoping for success when they take the track in the preliminary round of the women's 4x100m at 12:20 p.m. on Friday. Their team will be led by Krystal Sloley and Shana Kaye Anderson.
