Mount Pleasant aim for full points at tough Waterhouse
League leaders Mount Pleasant Football Academy are aiming to take full points off Waterhouse Football Club when they travel to Drewsland for Sunday's big clash in the Wray and Nephew-sponsored Jamaica Premier League (JPL).
Mount Pleasant head coach Theodore Whitmore says the club's expectation is to win every game and though they are going into Waterhouse's fortress, their goal remains the same.
"Every game that Mount Pleasant plays is a must-win game," Whitmore stated. "We always play to get the win so we'll treat it that way."
It will be a contest of first versus fifth as Mount Pleasant lead the standings with 31 points compared to host Waterhouse, who have tallied 26.
The visitors, last year's beaten finalists, are fresh off a closely fought 1-0 win over Portmore United and looking to extend their win streak to six games.
A major boost to their squad will be the presence of midfielder Alex Marshall, back from injury.
Marshall, who had joined Mount Pleasant during the summer transfer window, was ruled out of play in the first match of the season after fracturing the fifth metatarsal in his right leg.
His return could spell danger for the league as his creative plays could boost Mount Pleasant's already prolific goalscoring form.
However, Waterhouse will not fall easily as they are looking to return to winning ways following their most recent 1-1 draw against Racing United.
Their leading marksman, Atapharoy Bygrave, wants to make a statement as he faces off against his old teammates.
Speaking after their last game, Bygrave said he is hungry for all three points and to bring his team further up the table.
"A point on the road is great but it is not the result that we wanted," Bygrave said. "We have to just go back to the drawing board and come again. We have to make the sacrifices and now is not the time to have any break."
In other fixtures on Sunday, struggling Harbour View FC will hope to climb up the table when they face a tough task against Montego Bay United.
The Stars of the East are teetering just above the relegation zone, sitting in 12th place with 12 points while the team from the west lie third on 28 points.
Defending champions Cavalier will travel to Ferdi Neita Park as they look to topple Portmore United in their next fixture.
Cavalier are currently fourth with 26 points, four ahead of Portmore United who are in sixth position.
