Junction Valley triumph to secure Caribbean Village Cricket finals berth

St Elizabeth-based Junction Valley will be Jamaica's representative at the Caribbean Airlines Caribbean Village Cricket series after the Jamaica leg of the recent competition at the Port Rhoades Sports Club in Discovery Bay, St Ann.

In a display of sheer determination and skill, Junction Valley emerged as the undisputed champions of Jamaica after getting by Whitehouse, Fairfield, and Links United. Their resounding victory clinched a coveted spot in the Caribbean Village Cricket finals in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on May 5.

Junction Valley got the better of Whitehouse by eight wickets in the 10-over affair and then defeated Fairfield by 25 runs with Damion Ebanks getting a tournament top score of 91 not out.

Captain Rohan Patterson was elated that they would fly Jamaica's flag in the twin-island republic.

"Cricket serves as the binding force within our community," said Patterson. "This triumph transcends mere silverware; it symbolises the indomitable spirit of our community. As we carry the mantle of Jamaican representation on to the regional stage, we carry with us the collective spirit of our people."

Jamaica Cricket Association CEO Courtney Francis, who witnessed the competition, says cricket at the village and community level continues to be crucial to the sport, which has turned out numerous outstanding sportsmen and sportswomen.

"Village cricket serves as the lifeblood of our sport. These local competitions serve as nurseries for future stars and kindle the flame of passion for cricket in our youth. Events of this nature are imperative for sustaining West Indian cricket," said Francis.

According to Trudy Chin, general manager of Caribbean Airlines Jamaica, the Caribbean Village Cricket series showcased the thrill of competitive cricket and exemplified a profound sense of Caribbean unity.
