Kingston Cricket Club, known as the 'Tigers', broke a 23-year dry spell by clinching the Jamaica Cricket Association Senior Cup, marking a historic victory against the Jamaica Defence Force at Sabina Park in a drawn final yesterday.

Starting the day at 58 for four, the army team, chasing Kingston's first innings total of 251, fell short at 185. Andre Fowler led the charge with 43, as Gordon Bryan added 26, and Dennis Bulli and Sheldon Cottrell contributed 24 and 23, respectively. Andre Bailey and Odean Smith starred with the ball, each bagging three wickets.

With a 66-run lead, Kingston only needed to bat out the final day to secure the title, reaching 219 for eight before play was called off. Kirk McKenzie shone with 84 runs, supported by Odean Smith's 45 and Brad Barnes' 39. National fast bowler Gordon Bryan led the army's resistance by taking five wickets, while Sheldon Cottrell claimed two scalps.

Captain Akim Fraser expressed his joy, dedicating the win to coach Terrence Corke, who had previously won the cup as a player, but never as a coach. Fraser highlighted the team's collective effort, emphasising McKenzie's batting prowess, Barnes' contribution, and the impactful performances of Bailey and Smith with the ball.

"I am elated that we could pull off this win in the final. We have been playing some good cricket all season, and this is a fitting finale for us and coach Terrence Corke," said Fraser.

The victory marked the culmination of a remarkable season for the 'Tigers' who broke a 23-year long-standing title drought.
