Douglas upbeat despite Muschett’s disappointments
Shanoya Douglas, despite failing to build on what has been a dream season so far, is happy to experience the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States of America (USA), although Muschett High failed to advance to the final of both the 4x100 and 4x400 metres.
Muschett were making their first appearance at the event last weekend and with Douglas as their leader, they failed to progress from the preliminary rounds. In the 4x100, Muschett finished seventh in 51.07 seconds, and in the 4x400 they were 11th in 4:16.82 minutes, where Maggotty won the heat in 4:01.02, but like their rivals, failed to advance to the final.
Douglas has remained unbeaten this season after top performances at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships and the Carifta Games, and although failing to put on a significant display at Penn Relays, was still upbeat about being there.
"I am excited to participate at the Penn Relays as I have always looked forward to this moment, and being there is a dream come true," said Douglas.
"The whole experience for me being there and meeting so many athletes from the different high schools across the United States was good, as I am a friendly person. One thing I hated was the weather, as it was extremely cold.
"I think, as a team, we did our best, and once we did our best, we cannot complain. I am very proud of them," she continued.
This Saturday, Douglas will turn her attention to the East Coast meet in Maryland, where she will compete against some of the top USA high school girls' athletes, which she is anticipating.
"I like challenges, and I like people who are faster than me as this helps me to do my best, and I am looking forward to the competition in Maryland this Saturday," she shared.
When asked about the reason for her big improvement this season, her response was: "This was all about my ego as I do not like to lose, and this forced me to put out my best."
