FANS were treated with some exciting and competitive netball action at Monday's Heroes Day Scrappy Nevers and Randy Williams Netball Rally at the Longville Park Community Centre in Clarendon.

Clear Express Shipping, a team which included national senior players Zonasha Hinds, Shantel Slater and Chenika Jones, dominated the 18-team competition to take home top prize of $100,000 after stopping Hayes 6-3 in the final. The beaten finalists walked away with $50,000.

The only unbeaten team in the tournament, Clear Express, eased through the preliminary round scoring several lopsided victories.

The champions maintained their good form in the semi-finals after an easy 7-2 win over Unique Falcon. In the other semi final, Hayes had to stave off a strong challenge from the previously unbeaten Denbigh High "A" team getting by them 7-5 in a very close contest.

In the third-place playoff, Denbigh "A" got by Unique Falcons 9-4 to walk away with $30,000, while Falcons collected $15,000 for fourth.

With Hinds marshalling the centre along with good combinations from goal shooter Slater, goal attack Tanya Thomas, goal defence Jones and goalkeeper Suthania Scott, Clear Express raced to a quick 3-0 lead before closing out a 3-1 half-time lead.

In the second half, a gallant Hayes team fought back early to even the score at 3-3. However, the experience of the champions prevailed as they scored three quick unanswered goals to end the game 6-3.

Denbigh "B", with the players coming from their under-16 team in the ISSA rural schoolgirls competition, walked away with a cash prize of $10,000 for winning the consolation final after defeating UPC 4-2. UPC Nets took home $5,000 for their efforts.
