MoBay, Portmore content with draw

Montego Bay United's (MBU) coach Rodolfo Zapata said he was pleased with the team's hard-fought performance, even though they drew 0-0 with Portmore United FC in the Jamaica Premier League football game at Montego Bay Sports Complex in Catherine Hall yesterday.

It was the second consecutive draw for MBU, who sit atop the table with 14 points.

"We played a good game. It was very tactical. We created four or five clear chances to win the game, but we couldn't finish," Zapata said.

"I am happy with my boys' performance because they respond positively. With the quality players that we have, the goal is coming anytime," Zapata said.

"Portmore United is a good, young team and very disciplined as well.

MBU, who were slightly dominant, gave up way too many clear-cut chances.

Portmore, too, got a fair number of chances to steal a win in a hostile environment, but came up short.

In the latter part of the game, it appeared as if the home team got an anxiety attack as they became more aggressive and pushed the pace.

At least five golden opportunities were presented for MBU, but Portmore United's goalkeeper Daniel Russell was up to the task.

Rodolph Austin, coach of Portmore United FC, admitted the game was very competitive.

"I am very proud of the point we got today. Coming into a hostile environment to play the top-of-the-table team, we could have probably nicked it, and so could they," Austin said.

"Our plan was to win, but we have to play smart. Far away from home and you get a clean sheet, we have to be satisfied," Austin said.

"Our next match is a home game, and we play different at home. We can be more offensive. We just have to get the team with the same mentality going forward."
