JC meet gets under way with field events

Field events will take centre stage as the 31st staging of the Pure Water JC Danny Williams Track and Field Meet begins today at the Ashenheim Stadium, Jamaica College.

The meet, which will continue with track events tomorrow, serves as a qualifying event for the 114th ISSA GraceKennedy Boys' and Girls' Athletics Championships, scheduled for March.

Today's action kicks off at 11 a.m. with the boys' Class One discus, followed by the girls' Class Two discus at 12 p.m. Other field events slated for today include the girls' Open triple jump, boys' Classes One and Two triple jump, girls' Class One discus, and the boys' and girls' Open pole vault.

Tomorrow's events begin at 8:30 a.m. with the girls' Open 3000 metres. Key contenders include Janeail Henry of Wolmer's, Sashana Johnson of Edwin Allen, and Ashara Frater of Vere Technical.

Following the girls' race, the boys' Open 5000 metres will start at 8:45 a.m.
