Edwin Allen’s James released from hospital
Edwin Allen High School's multi-talented athlete, Ishna James, has been released from the hospital after collapsing during the 800m, the final event of the girls' heptathlon, on Saturday's final day of competition at the ISSA GraceKennedy Boys and Girls' Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.
James, who was on course to capture gold with a commanding 230-point lead over her nearest rival, failed to finish the eight-discipline event.
After completing the first 250 metres, she collapsed and fell to the turf. When officials attempted to assist her, she was unresponsive and had to be rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital.
It was initially reported that she collapsed because of dehydration, sparking panic among the Edwin Allen fraternity as early rumours suggested she had suffered a mild stroke.
However, this was not the case, and she was released from the hospital yesterday.
Despite failing to score in the final event, James still finished fourth overall with a total of 3,985 points.
Hydel High School's Calah McDonald went on to claim the gold medal after amassing 4,464 points.
