Spanish Town Police relegated after 6-2 hammering by Chapelton Maroons
Spanish Town Police became the first relegation causality in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) this season, after they went down 6-2 to Chapelton Maroons at Turner's Oval on Sunday.
Veteran striker Levaughn Williams led the way with four goals (2nd, 30th, 45th+1 and 50th). Ray Campbell (15th) and Daniel Scarlett (32nd) got the other goals.
Devontay Ricketts (63rd) and Jordan Elliston (68th) scored for Spanish Town Police.
With two games to go, Spanish Town Police sit rock bottom in the standings on 26 points, 10 points off the nearest team in Harbour View. AS such, they are officially relegated.
The JPL debutants won seven games, drew five and lost 25, scoring 25 goals and conceding 101.
Meanwhile, Defending champions Cavalier drew closer to securing their playoffs spot, after a 2-0 win over Racing at Stadium East.
Kimarley Scott gave Cavalier the lead in the 63rd minute and Christopher Ainsworth's 70th minute penalty secured the win.
"Excellent performance from the team and as long as we play consistently like this we should be alright getting into the top six," said Cavalier assistant coach David Laylor.
"We need to maintain what we are doing. This game should encourage us to continue on this path and as long as we stay on this path we should be okay in the top six."
The win put sixth-place Cavalier on 55 points, one behind Racing. However, Arnett (52) defeated Portmore 2-1, to stay in the hunt for the playoffs and as did Chapelton, who kept their very slim hopes going with their win over Spanish Town Police.
Racing haven't won in nine matches, and with just one win in the third round, assistant coach Marvin Tate said it's time for concern.
"Not the least worried, but it's time for concern. Nonetheless, we need two points with two games to go (to secure top six) and we are banking on our players to come good for those two games," he said
At Harbour View Mini Stadium, the home team scored a vital 4-3 win over league leaders Montego Bay United, to boost their survival hopes, although they still remain in the bottom two.
Rohan Brown (42nd, 73rd) scored a brace, while an own goal and a Roderick Granville strike saw them past MoBay, who also had a brace from Richardo Ramsay (65th, 68th) and another from Nashordo Gibbs (89th).
Harbour View are second from bottom (13th) in the standings with 36 points, the same as Molynes, who have a better goal difference and who also play today (Monday).
At Ferdi Neita Park, 10-man Arnett Gardens, with goals Fabian Reid (20th) and Kevaughn Wilson (38th), beat nine-man Portmore 2-1. Ronaldo Robinson (38th) scored for Portmore.
Arnett (52), are three points behind sixth-place Cavalier and four adrift of fifth place Racing.
At STETHS, Jaheim Harris netted the games only goal after eight minutes for Treasure Beach to beat Dunbeholden 1-0 and climb out of the relegation zone.
Treasure Beach are 11th with 37 points, one more than 13th place Harbour View and 12th place Molynes, who play Tivoli today.
