VIDEO: Jamaican woman, boyfriend arrested in T&T after viral child abuse video

A 21-year-old Jamaican woman and her 32-year-old Trinidadian common-law husband have been arrested in Trinidad and Tobago, in connection with the abuse of an infant girl which was recorded and went viral on social media.

The video which is a little over 2 minutes was also posted on YouTube and has already racked up over 4000 views.

It shows the toddler, dressed only in diapers, being slapped repeatedly by the man in the video who was forcing her to drink the milky contents of a bottle he held.

The child who was crying and sobbing profusely, refused to drink the liquid in the bottle.

"Open yuh mouth," the man said to the toddler who refused to comply.

The man then hit the child in the head, causing her to fall to the floor. He then held on to her hair and pulled her to her feet. Shortly afterwards, he slapped her to the floor again when she refused to swallow the milky liquid he forced her to consume.

"Hey doah hold on pon mi, cause yuh too hard ears," said a woman with a Jamaican accent whose face was not shown on camera. She too willed the child to comply but did not stop the man from hitting the infant.

The Children’s Authority of Trinidad and Tobago reportedly released a statement condemning the act after the video went viral.

It's reported that the Child Protection Unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service is investigating the incident and working with the mother and the child to provide the necessary support, which includes medical treatment and counselling.
