Heroes park tour for Fun in the Son

Patrons at this year's staging of The Best Dressed Fun in the Son on July 16 will be treated to a dramatisation of the lives of the national heroes by some of the island's leading actors.

This, during specially organised tours of the burial site at the National Heroes Park, where the one-day gospel festival is scheduled to be held.

Jamaica Broilers Group and Glory Music - organisers of the free gospel festival - have collaborated with the Jamaica National Heritage Trust (JNHT) to plan free tours during the festival, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

"This is the second time that the Heritage Tours will be included in The Best Dressed Fun in the Son gospel festival. The first time being in 2012 when it got overwhelming support," said Richard Sadler, festival director.

Coordinator of the Heritage Tour, Racquel Watson, said one of the highlights of each tour will be a Heritage Show, featuring Jamaica's finest performing arts choir - the international award-winning Nexus Performing Arts Company.

The company will present a 30-minute package of praise and worship in pop, folk music, traditional gospel, as well as dance and drama. Host of the segment will be thespian Camille Davis.

For the Heritage Tours, actors will be costumed and placed at strategic locations to invoke a sense of drama, historical accuracy and relevance of the national heroes' contribution to Jamaica's history.

Each actor, depicting a national hero, will perform a scripted dramatic monologue and will be available for a question-and-answer segment, during which patrons will be able to compete for meal vouchers to be used at the Best Dressed Chicken food booth at the festival.

The JNHT will provide tour guides for three groups of 20 to 30 persons each. Each tour will last between 30 and 45 minutes.
