It's been a long time coming, but a date may finally have been confirmed for Rihanna's highly anticipated dancehall-reggae-inspired album.

According to tweets made over the weekend by music executives from Universal Music France, the untitled project is set for release in December.

The news comes almost a year and a half after it was first announced that the Bajan superstar was getting ready to release her ninth studio album.

CEO of Universal Music France Olivier Nusse was one of the execs to first break the news during the company's annual 'Open Session' in Paris. He did so by revealing a list of artistes who are on the verge of releasing albums. Drake, Migos, The Weeknd, and Rihanna are among the list of names with albums expected to drop this fall.

Koffee and Demarco have so far been rumoured as two of the artistes who could appear on the album. Last month, a song bearing both Rihanna and Demarco's names was registered with her publishers, BMI.

Late last year, Rolling Stones Magazine reported that more than 500 recordings had been submitted to Rihanna's team for consideration. Rolling Stones listed Supa Dups, producer-writer duo R City, Stephen 'Di Genius' McGregor, Linton 'TJ Records' White, producer-singer Ricky Blaze, dancehall singer Kranium, and reggae singer Chronixx among those who have submitted works.
