Up-and-coming reggae artiste Tamo J is showcasing his versatility on his latest single, Deliver Me. The track, which was released late last month, sees the artiste connecting with his spiritual side, something he reveals is very necessary, especially in these difficult times.

"I've always been a spiritual person. I grew up in the Adventist Church, so I've always been in tune with my inner self. A lot of people classify it as 'gospel heggae', so they feel the connection, especially now when everyone is going through a difficult time," he said. "The song has really been a source of encouragement for many and I'm just glad I was able to give people a song like this, in a time like this."

Going through dark times

Although Deliver Me is fitting for the period of darkness the world is facing as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the entertainer revealed that the song was not written and recorded specifically to speak to the current crisis. He says the world has always been going through dark times, and so the song was a general cry for intervention from the Almighty.

"It was more an overall cry for help. I think we as a people are so lost at times and can be cruel towards each other, the COVID-19 pandemic is just another factor. The song was released a little before the serious outbreak in Jamaica, but it has become so relevant in the crisis," he said. "The song says ' Jah deliver me from the hands of evil and wickedness. Purge my sins and protect my steps'. It's a prayer to the Father that is always going to be necessary, because we will always need deliverance and divine protection."

Tamo J says since its release, Deliver Me has been receiving positive feedback. He revealed that the response has not only been from listeners in Jamaica, but people as far away as Africa.

"In a time like this when you can't reach the people physically, I'm putting in the work to ensure that I stay connected. I've been 'quarantined in studio' mostly, and I've been trying to channel all my time into some new projects."
