The JamWorld Entertainment Complex in Portmore, St Catherine, is poised to become Jamaica’s first 24-hour entertainment zone.

The announcement was made earlier today by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen during his Throne Speech at the Ceremonial Opening of Parliament.

He stated the renovations are being done to “address the need for designated entertainment areas.”

In 2022, entertainment minister Olivia Grange announced the Government had purchased the property, which had historically been the home of hardcore dancehall show Sting.

“We are now in possession of JamWorld at the ministry and it will be built out as one of the greatest entertainment complexes you can find in this hemisphere,” Grange said in 2022.

It is unclear when the renovations will be completed, but the Governor General echoed the importance of the entertainment sector to Jamaica.

“Our excellence in entertainment outweighs our size,” he said.
