Mr Lexx releases AI music video

February 04, 2025

Dancehall veteran Mr Lexx is claiming to be the first dancehall artiste to release an artificial intelligence (AI)-generated music video following the release of visuals for his recent single, Save The World.

The visuals were unveiled last week on his official YouTube channel. The visuals immediately stood out for their futuristic aesthetics, with dynamic, computer-generated scenes that transported viewers to a high-tech, neon-lit world. Mr Lexx explained that the project aimed to showcase the intersection of dancehall -- a genre deeply rooted in Jamaican culture -- and cutting-edge technology.

"We are in the age of AI and I'm gonna attract new age fans, so I gotta experiment with the now technology. And, of course, I wanted to be the first to do it," he said. "My friend Darrio had the beat and we were doing some city shows, and while we were in LA, he played the track and I just started to freestyle the song. So I just wrote it and we recorded it."

He added, "It was really easy. They set up a screen at the location and I just performed in front of it a few times while they were recording from three different angles, and the AI did the rest."

Mr Lexx said the feedback has been overwhelming and favourable, and suggested that artistes have to embrace the change or risk being neglected.

"This is where the music and technology is, and you just have to go with the wave or get left behind. I guess that's why I'm still here after so long," he reasoned. He expressed confidence that AI-generated content will trend in dancehall.

He said the video was done by Upsetter Records and LoudCity.
