Tahheer Laing promises 'softer' Sting this year
Supreme Promotions director Tahheer 'Fatman' Laing said that despite the hardcore vibe Sting is known for, this year he'll be "softening" the show with a quality artiste lineup and a beach festival. In so doing, the new Sting promoter is focused on lessening the number of performers and branding this year's stage show event as Sting Live.
"A lot of the artistes this year are giving back their blessings to Sting and I appreciate that a lot. Many don't remember where they started but big up to those who remember. With the beach party, it will give the show a soft vibe because yuh know seh Sting a one addi show dem weh mek yuh feel like you big and mighty so I'm tryna tone it down a little bit, in terms of-probably this year I might not have a big lyrical clash like I always do but something is coming," Laing told THE STAR.
With the announcement of the additional artistes such as Echo Minott, Tony Curtis, Jigsy King, Carl Meeks and Flourgon as a part of Sting's Foundation category, the promoters said in creating a balance, they intentionally mixed the new Gen Z and '90s artistes such as Gyptian, Laden, Skippa, Kuanna, Ice Gawd, Quada, Natty Sean and Nubian.
TikTokers including Pops YG and 41 Busshead are also set to make an appearance at the event while Rosalee and Blinga will be hosting Sting's TikTok live. An extra touch of entertainment will also see the popular 17-year old Hosang Twins showing off their dancing skills at the event for the first time this year. With no MC Nuffy in sight, MC Tamara 'Lady Timry' Brown will take over part of the hosting duties for the night as a new addition to the team.
The launch which was hosted on the grounds of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport in New Kingston, saw scores of attendees in support of the launch of Sting 2024.
The event, which will feature two shows this year, promises "bigger and more surprise guests", with announcements to come soon. Sting is slated for December 26 at Jamworld, Portmore, where it will host its annual stage show, dubbed 'Sting Live'; after which they'll cool things down with a beach festival on December 28 at Sugarman's Beach.
"It will be a big celebration for us for celebrating 41 years and the start of something new," said Laing.
