The Owner singjay, who is headlining the Noise Nation Festival this Saturday, told THE WEEKEND STAR that his experience since landing has been nothing short of magical.
"My first trip to Africa, particularly Uganda, is pure magic. It genuinely feels like home/Jamaica," Dexta Daps said. "I'm still on a natural high from this experience -- the lively culture, the kindness of the people, and the scenery are truly one of a kind," he shared.
When asked if performing in Africa had always been a dream of his, Dexta Daps confirmed enthusiastically: "Absolutely. It's always been a dream of mine -- connecting with my roots and sharing my music live with African audiences is deeply fulfilling...[and] realising this passion feels like a dream realised. It organically combines my love for music and my heritage, and I find joy in giving back through my art," he said.
The streets of the East African country were alive with excitement on Wednesday as residents, accompanied by SafeBoda riders, celebrated the reggae/dancehall sensation's arrival. A colourful convoy of dancers, flag-bearers, and fans, waving banners and flyers, made their way to the airport to welcome Dexta Daps in true Ugandan style.
A short clip shared on the artiste's Instagram page captured the heartfelt reception, which included a fragrant bouquet and a hamper of Uganda Waragi Lemon & Ginger, symbolising "a taste of the country's full and welcoming spirit".
"Being greeted so warmly by Uganda Waragi and a lively convoy made me feel truly valued and celebrated. It reminded me that music knows no boundaries. It was unlike anything I've ever experienced in my career, truly a life-changing moment," said Dexta Daps.
Since his arrival, the No Underwear singer has been immersing himself in the local culture, meeting residents and enjoying authentic Ugandan cuisine. He expressed enthusiasm about connecting with Ugandan artistes.
Dexta Daps, known for his sultry and dynamic performances, is determined to make his first African show unforgettable.
"I plan to incorporate elements that resonate with the Ugandan audience into my performance. I've intentionally chosen local background vocalists and dancers, and I will integrate local sounds while collaborating with local artistes. I want this show to have a personal and nostalgic touch," he promised.
For Dexta Daps, headlining Uganda's inaugural Noise Nation Festival is an honour. "It reflects recognition of my talents and underscores the deep connection I have with my African roots," he noted.
"The vibe is electric. My Ugandan fans have shown immense support throughout my career, and their excitement is tangible as we gear up for the Noise Nation Festival. Uganda is one of my top markets," Dexta Daps shared, describing the palpable energy from his supporters.
