Mehkadon and Gold Gad ignite festive fire

Although Christmas Day has passed, the celebrations continue, thanks to Mehkadon and Gold Gad's festive anthem, ' Christmas Wish'. The dynamic singjays say the creation of this holiday hit was nothing short of magical.

"He came up with the idea to make the Christmas song and [chose] the beat because he was like, 'I think it will bring back memories of the great Kartel and Spice, who did a song on it,'" Mehkadon shared excitedly.

"We [thought] it would be good to bring back that vibe in a Christmas way, but I was the one who started the song," she added with a chuckle.

Gold Gad couldn't contain his enthusiasm as he recounted the moment: "Mi lef har inna di studio and seh, 'Fawud up wid sitn pon dis man.' When mi hear di song and shi a gwaan like shi nuh too sure, mi seh, 'Dah song yah a fi tomorrow morning, man -- come, mek wi shoot di video right now and release it!'" he recalled with a grin.

"From mi hear dah first bar deh, mi seh, 'Di song done, release di song, not even me need fi put on no more verse pon it.' Shi wicked, enuh -- when it comes to finding songs."

Initially inspired by the raunchy vibe of Kartel and Spice, the duo's holiday track, set to Ne-Yo's 'Miss Independent' riddim, evolved into something fresh yet distinctly Jamaican.

"It's more like being in love at Christmas, yuh know, like 'Jingle bell, jingle bell, mi and yuh alone,' but with a likkle slackness, because yuh know Jamaican ting affi have dat," Mehkadon explained, emphasising the availability of a clean version for family-friendly holiday play.

Since its release, Christmas Wish has been met with glowing reviews. The song's video, released just days ago, has already racked up nearly 50,000 views and 4,000 'likes'. Fans are hooked on the duo's undeniable chemistry.

"Yuh see when yuh find a good artiste weh as dem touch a riddim yuh nuh affi seh, 'Change dat,' a dat wid she now," Gold Gad gushed. "Every song shi duh mi seh, 'Why dis sound like a hit? It too big fi drop now, wait.'"

Mehkadon echoed the sentiment: "Working with [Gold Gad] is very easy, because mi feel like wi have similar ears when it comes to how we consume music. Suh we agree quite a lot on things... . It's easy, and it's fun because once he's there, it's always a vibe," she giggled.

As they continue to celebrate the season, Mehkadon and Gold Gad hinted at more collaborations in 2025. And if Christmas Wish is any indication, fans could be in for a treat.
