Carousing set to ignite Kingston
Dancehall Week is turning up the heat, and, according to CEO Dave Goldson, Magnum Carousing is set to be "the wildest after-party in dancehall".
Happening on Sunday, March 2, at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew, Carousing promises a night of pure energy, heavy-hitting beats, and star-studded performances.
The stage will be on fire with the likes of Jah Vinci delivering his soul-stirring anthems, while Pamputtae is ready to spice things up. Jada Kingdom brings her sultry swagger, and the ever-enigmatic Tommy Lee Sparta is set to deliver his signature dark energy. In addition, rising sensation Jamal, aka DunceMan, is set to explode at the event.
"We knew we wanted to end Dancehall Week with a bang, and Magnum Carousing is that ultimate climax event," Goldson shared.
"After the Double Seven Street Parade in Kingston, we head right into the wildest after-party with the hottest acts in dancehall today, and we are excited to see them rock the stage. All these artistes have etched their own niche and developed their own fan base in entertainment, so together they represent the blend that is truly dancehall."
But Magnum Carousing is just the explosive finale to an epic week celebrating all things dancehall. Dancehall Week, which kicked off yesterday, is packed with events spotlighting the culture, music, and style that define the genre.
The event, which kick-started last night with a 'Dancehall Week Takeover' at the popular 'Boom Sundayz' street party, is set to ignite the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre with a 'Dancehall Village' packed week of seminars, games, street parade and live shows.
Director Janice Young said this week-long event of "fun and excitement" marks the importance of dancehall to the Jamaican culture.
"Dancehall Week is important not just for the players involved in the execution of the event, this is important for dancehall culture, so that the world can see that we're holding our own and we appreciate our own [dancehall culture] just the way they appreciate it," Young told THE STAR.
Goldson aims for Dancehall Week to not only impact dancehall on a global scale but by extension, Jamaica.
"Dancehall Week has become a significant event in Jamaica's cultural calendar, attracting local and international attention. It provides a platform for dancehall artistes to gain exposure, promotes cultural exchange and contributes to Jamaica's tourism development," said Goldson.
This week, fans can look forward to the Dancehall Fashion Frenzy - a dazzling fashion show and shopping extravaganza on Friday - before the energy peaks with the Double Seven Dancehall Street Parade on Sunday evening.
The parade will snake through Kingston, from Ranny Williams Entertainment on Hope Road to Half-Way Tree Square, before circling back for Magnum Carousing, the grand finale.
